Finding Balance

A lot of what we learn in Acupuncture school is about Yin and Yang and the continuous cycles of life.  The dark, the light, the bad the good, and the process we go through from one to the other.  This is the concept of Yin and Yang.  Finding wellness and balance in life is about finding just the right mix of Yin and Yang for yourself and creating your own personal healthy harmony of body, mind and soul.  As I continue on my journey through this education, I am learning a lot about health and wellness, myself and others.  One thing I can definitely claim that keeps me balanced is exercise and movement.  I spent a better part of my life as an athlete.  I grew up in a highly active mountain town where kids did sports, rather than spend time at the mall.  I played soccer, softball, volleyball, danced, and most seriously skied.  I spent many years as a highly competitive Freestyle skier and even spent some of those years skiing for the US Freestyle Development Ski Team.  The reason I bring this up, is that for the past 8 years or so I’ve strictly been a recreational athlete, & a student.  I thrive on activity as well as intellectual pursuits, but can’t live with one and not the other.  When I moved to Portland, I missed the mountain town ease with which you can walk out your back door and instantly be in an outdoor enthusiasts playground.  I spent time in the gym lifting normal weights and quickly grew bored with the routine, not achieving any of the endorphins I’m used to, that is until I found the Elite Kettlebell Gym!  (this is starting to sound like a promo).  Anyway, the point of my little ramble is that I have been training at this gym for quite a while now and love it more and more every day I go!  It keeps my mind and body fresh and feeling like an athlete again.  Just recently I got certified to train Kettlebells and spent an awesome weekend hanging out with the crew at Elite Kettlebell learning all the moves, working out and generally just having a great time!  The point of my story is that for me, I have found quite a nice balance training at EKG and going to school the rest of the time.  I am excited to add this certification to my repertoire of healthy living and if you are in the Portland/Tigard Oregon area check out the gym!  It pretty much rocks and maybe you’ll find me there 🙂

Be well!
